A fraction has a top number (the numerator) and a bottom number (the denominator). The bottom tells you how many equal pieces something is cut into; the top tells you how many of those pieces you have. 🍕 To add fractions, follow these steps:
If the denominators are already the same, add the numerators and keep the denominator.
Find a common denominator — a number both bottoms divide into — rewrite each fraction, then add the tops.
💡 Trick: multiplying the two bottoms always gives a common denominator (2 × 3 = 6).
If the top and bottom share a factor, divide them both by it to make the fraction as small as possible.
Add the whole-number parts, then add the fraction parts.
