Scatterplot matrix
Shows every pair of 2–8 scale variables in a grid, with each variable’s histogram on the diagonal.
Menu: Graphs → More charts → Scatterplot matrix…
When should I use it?
- Screening many relationships at once before regression or factor analysis.
What are the assumptions?
- Scale variables.
How do I run it in StatLab?
- Choose the variables (and optionally a group variable).
How do I read the output?
| Output | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Cells | Scatterplot of the row variable against the column variable. |
Worked example
On the practice survey dataset (File → Sample dataset), this command — which the dialog's Paste button also produces — runs the procedure:
PROC vizMatrix /vars=(score age) /color=''.
Computed by StatLab's validated procedure code when this page was built. The example only illustrates the steps; choose variables that fit your own research question.
What are common mistakes?
- Using too many variables — cells become unreadable beyond 8.
