Shows each category’s share of the whole. The donut version prints the total in the centre.
Menu: Graphs → More charts → Pie / donut chart…
When should I use it?
- Showing parts of a whole with few (2–6) categories.
What are the assumptions?
- Categories add up to a meaningful whole.
How do I run it in StatLab?
- Choose the category variable and the style.
How do I read the output?
| Output | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Slices | Percent of all valid cases; labels appear on slices of 4% or more. |
Worked example
On the practice survey dataset (File → Sample dataset), this command — which the dialog's Paste button also produces — runs the procedure:
PROC vizPie /x=group /kind=pie.
Computed by StatLab's validated procedure code when this page was built. The example only illustrates the steps; choose variables that fit your own research question.
What are common mistakes?
- Using a pie for many categories or for comparing groups — a bar chart reads better.
